Maggie Smith and Stella Harding, with Mary Crabb, are exhibiting at the New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham, Surrey from Friday 18th November to Saturday 28th January. There was a presentation and demonstration on Friday 18th November from 2 to 4pm. There was also a plaiting workshop on Saturday 19th November from 10.30am to 4.30pm.


Upcoming events


Maggie is exhibiting in the 'Made in the Middle Touring Contemporary Craft Exhibition' which launches at MAC Birmingham from 11th February to 15th April 2012. More info at www.craftspace.co.uk


Stella is working on a basketry book "Practical Basketry Techniques" with Shane Waltener to be published by A&C Black in February 2012

Maggie Smith took part in the 'Made in Clerkenwell Winter Open Studios' at Craft Central from 24th to 27th November.


Stella Harding took part in the Art's Council funded exhibition 'Portraits in the Making' at Pitzhanger Manor Gallery and House in Ealing from 21st September to 12th November . An image of her work as featured in 'Crafts' magazine.


Rachel Max, Maggie Smith, Joyce Hicks, Joan West, Norma Adams, Margaret Sparks, Geraldine Poore & Lorraine Gilmore all had work in the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers exhibition

'Basketry Arts: Useful & Beautiful' ran from 6th to 10th September at the Apricot Gallery, The Rag Factory, 16 - 18 Heneage Street, London E1 5LJ Anne Ratnarajah took part in the biennial World Wicker Festival in Nowy Tomysl, Poland, in August


Joyce Hicks & Lorraine Gilmore both exhibited in "Under, Over & Out", the City & Guilds Creative Basketry Part 2 end of course exhibition, at the City Lit from 26th to 29th July


Joyce Hicks featured in the Meet the Artist section of the July edition of Surrey Life


Sherry Doyal led a basketry workshop on indigenous Australian basketry techniques at the British Museum on Saturday 9th July


Anne Ratnarajah took part in the Bucks Open Studios from 25th June to 3rd July, at Haddenham


Joyce Hicks had a piece, "Basket Beads", in the "Inspired By" exhibition at the V&A from 4th June to 3rd July

Sherry also had work in "Drawn Together - Putting Staff in the Picture", an exhibition by the staff of Dulwich Picture Gallery, at Jeannie Avent Gallery, North Cross Road, East Dulwich from 17th February to 1st March

Maggie Smith had work in "Made to Give", an exhibition by the Northampton Guild of Designer Craftsmen, at The Gallery Upstairs, 78 Derngate, Northampton NN1 1UT from Saturday 16th October to Sunday 19th December


Margaret Sparks was awarded a prize for her linocut “A Medieval Forest” at the Victoria & Albert Museum on Saturday 2nd October. The print was inspired by the new Medieval & Renaissance Galleries and is in the exhibition “Inspired By” at the V&A from Saturday 2nd October to Sunday 21st November 2010. Stella Harding was selected to be a member of the first cohort of Hothouse, the Crafts Council's new support programme for emerging makers and exhibited at the New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham, Surrey as part of the "Crafts Council Collective - Hothouse, Group Exhibition of Emerging Makers" from Saturday 9th to Saturday 23rd October


Sherry Doyal had an exhibition “Leaves of Grass” at the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology, University College London from Tuesday 5th to Saturday 30th October


Joyce Hicks won the Basketmakers’ Association Challenge Cup at the recent BA AGM. Her winning piece “Gummy Beads” can be seen at “On the Wall”, the next exhibition by Basketry Plus. It will be at Lauderdale House, Highgate, London from Tuesday 5th April to Sunday 17th April 2011


Stella Harding took part in the Hove Arts Trail as part of the Brighton Festival and Artists' Open Houses. She showed work at The Claremont, Second Avenue, Hove BN3 2LL, open May 1/2/3, 8/9, 15/16, 22/23


Joan West exhibited, with eight new baskets on display, with Textile Expressions at the Gayton Library, Garden House, St John's Rd, Harrow HA1 2EE from 27th April to 8th May


Stella Harding had a new exhibition, “Show your working out”, at the Metre Square Gallery, Quay2c, Peckham, London SE15, from 2nd March to 5th May


Joan West, Joyce Hicks and Norma Adams had work featured in the February 2010 issue of House and Gardens


Elaine Kingsford and Joyce Hicks taught at a plaiting workshop for Herts Basketry on January 23rd

Stella Harding has recently moved into a studio at the Framework Studios, 5-9 Creekside, London, SE8 4SA and took part in the Art Hub Studios Xmas Show at the studios
